writing - news

1.10.08 The current novel is getting some attention at last. A new page on The Letters here. It's getting chilly...

18.9.08 There are some more bits and bobs up at my Snowbooks author page, including a photo of me and a cow (links on the left). a handful of stones is looking good. I will get back to working on my current novel, ANY DAY NOW. Just a couple of things to do first...

31.8.09 a handful of stones has started - go and have a look for a brand new stone by someone who's not me every day. And do have a go at writing a few yourself if you fancy it and sending them through (more info here). Have you ordered my novel yet? ; )

21.8.09 As you can see, the covers are ready, and the novels are already available for pre-order! You'll have to wait a mere 193 days for The Letters to be delivered to your door... I've also set up a companion group to the 'a handful of stones' blogzine on Facebook - come and join here or come and say hello to me here.

19.8.08 The covers for the novels are almost ready... and the publication dates and order of release have changed - The Letters first in March, then The Blue Handbag later in the year and Thaw in 2010. I'm writing a series of articles to 'count down' on Planting Words - sign up on the blog if you'd like them to be emailed to you every Monday.

2.8.08 I've got some good stuff now, but am still looking for submissions for my new blog, a handful of stones, which will start on September 1st.  I'm off on an Arvon course next week.

22.7.08 I'm busy getting my three manuscripts ready to go out into the big wide world, and am heartened to find that I still think they're rather good, even if I do say so myself... The Blue Handbag in March, The Letters in May and Thaw in July. I can't wait to introduce you to Leonard, Violet and Ruth.

17.7.08 Well, Emma mentioned me on her blog for the first time yesterday so I guess it must be official... www.snowbooks.co.uk are going to publish my three novels next year.  I'm REALLY looking forward to working with them. Read more about my triplets at Planting Words, my writing blog. Hurray! (grin)

14.7.08 I'm starting a new blog at http://ahandfulofstones.blogspot.com, a collection of other people's small stones. Find out more here and submit here, and please help me to spread the word. The blog tour is continuing - great fun.

2.7.07 My blog tour is underway - do visit me as I cross the globe flitting from blog to blog!

12.6.08 It's all go... 'small stones: a year of moments' is now available from Amazon UK or Amazon US - go on, you know you want to.  I'm also running a course near Oxford on the 30th of August - go here for more info - there are only 10 spaces so let me know if you're interested in attending.  Oh, and check out my blog tour!

9.6.08 I've decided to start offering services to writers again after a long hiatus - including telephone consultations and writing reports.  Find out more here - www.plantingwords.com, and I've also started a new blog on my writing process - www.plantingwords.blogspot.com.  Looking forward to getting started!

2.6.08 'small stones: a year of moments', the book based on my blog, is now available from Lulu - get more information here or buy it here.  It'll be available from Amazon soon-ish, I'll let you know when.  I'm organising a blog tour which should be fun - let me know if you have a blog and would like to join in.  I hope you like it.  Just back from a lovely retreat near Oxford - www.theabbey.uk.com - highly recommended.

9.5.08 Three of my poems are now up in waiting rooms in hospitals in Leeds - you can see them here.  Congratulations to Char March for what looks like a fantastic project. I'm finding new and inventive ways to avoid working on my current novel - no change there...

2.5.08 a small stone is now also a Gadget for iGoogle - clever eh?  iGoogle is a way of personalising your Google homepage - there are some great looking designs, and you can add lots of 'gadgets' - quote of the day, a clock, amusing photos of cats, and now a small stone too.  Click here to give it a go.

23.4.08 a small stone has had a mini-makeover in preparation for the book coming out, to make sure it matches. Hope you like Mr. Rabbit.  I have a couple of poetry readings coming up later in the year - will let you know when. The deer polished off the last red tulips last night.

13.3.08 A poem about my body falling apart with a recording of me reading it is now up at www.qarrtsiluni.com. The deer have eaten all my flowers, but never mind.

27.2.08 Still working on the new novel - finding out about Amsterdam, 13 year old boys, the weather and Aspergers syndrome and getting to know my characters.  Remembering how scary first drafts are.  Also redoubling my efforts to find a new agent after giving myself a break.  Daffodils!  Crocuses!  Tulips!

22.1.08 Happy new year!  I've decided to publish my first novel 'Thaw' myself, later in the year.  I've also got started on the new novel about Joe, which will keep me busy for a while.  Living Things, my first poetry collection, is now on Amazon (links here).

23.11.07 My first poetry collection, 'Living Things', is now available to buy from Lulu.  It'll filter onto Amazon over the next few weeks - I'll let you know when it's there.  Find out more about the collection here.

13.11.07 I'll be sending out a daily small stone from the new book throughout 2008 - if you'd like to sign up early, put your email into the box at the bottom of the page and choose 'a daily small stone'.  Go on, you know you want to.

9.11.07 Have just returned from the Aldeburgh poetry festival - Gerald Stern is a god.  Am looking for an agent for my third novel, The Letters, and am starting to put together a manuscript based on my small stone blog which is involving lots of cutting up bits of paper into small pieces, great fun.  The next novel is waiting patiently in the wings.

17.9.07 Book sales are going well, and I'm hoping to appear on Amazon soon.  If you live in the UK, signed copies are available - email me for more information.

1.8.07 You can now buy 'A Year of Questions' - click here or go to www.lulu.com and enter my name.  More information about the book here.  I'm very excited - the book looks fantastic and I can't wait for you to see it!

16.7.07 I'm trying not to start my next novel, about a 13 year old boy called Joe, until September... Still waiting for the summer to start!

23.5.07 Where does the time go?  We've now moved to our cottage in the country and it's a beautiful place to write.  'The Letters' is 'finished' and I'm about to start looking for an agent.  I'm also self-publishing 'A Year of Questions' through Lulu.com - I'm hoping this will be out late Summer.

31.1.07 A Year of Questions is completed so back to work on the 3rd novel, The Letters.  When that's done I'll start looking for a new agent after sadly parting ways with Joanna/Pollinger after she returned from maternity leave to work part time.  I'm editing www.qarrtsiluni.com until the end of Feb - all submissions welcome.  A small stone is running daily again, my plan is to continue throughout 2007.  That's it for now!

7.8.06 I'm taking a break from the third novel to work on a book provisionally called 'A Year of Questions: How to slow down and fall in love with life'.  This is based on my creative living musing (www.creative-living.blogspot.com).

5.8.06 A new look for this site - thanks dad!

20.6.06 My call and response project now has a website here - it'll grow as time goes on.

1.6.06 Still working on the third novel and waiting for the summer to arrive. My
a small stone
project finished yesterday after a year, but after taking a break I may continue on an ad-hoc basis (because I enjoy it). I have over 400 subscribers to creative living now, and am hoping to continue growing this over the next few years.

6.4.06 I've re-launched my weekly creative living newsletter, and the first issue is archived at www.creative-living.blogspot.com. If you'd like to sign up to receive them via email, put your email address into the box at the bottom of this page.

14.2.06 Another poem with sugar-lumps at 3rd Muse, and I nearly got accepted at Keep Going but it's a good magazine so I thought you might like a look anyway.

17.1.06 A new article on 'Still in the Stream' - apparently my blog is Wabi sabi, which is perfectly OK with me. Working on the 1st draft of my 3rd novel, The Letters.

5.10.05 New poem on nth position this month.

31.8.05 I've been approached by another artist to get involved in something collaborative which is new territory for me - more news as it comes. A couple more poems at Snakeskin (issue 116).

23.7.05 A new poem online at the ezine 3rd Muse.

12.6.05 a small stone is off and running. People have described it as 'prose haiku' and 'taking photographs with words', both of those are fine with me! I'm enjoying it.

28.10.04 Have been taken on as a client by Joanna Devereux from the literary agents Pollinger Ltd. (www.pollingerltd.com). My page is here.
