The Letters blog tour, March 2009

It's all over!  But you can still follow the little orange bus around the blogosphere - I talked about my debut novel The Letters, vegetables, goldfinches, lemon polenta cake and much much more.

You can buy the paperback now from the shops or for £5.99 from Amazon UK (or from Snowbooks if you live overseas).

Where I've been:

1st: Aliya Whitely at Veggie Box tells me that: 'The Letters' contains the most amazing amount of fruit and veg I've come across in a novel. In order of appearance, there's cucumbers, onions, garlic, mango, apples, blackcurrants, potatoes, lemons, peaches, strawberries, runner beans, raspberries, cabbage, peas, carrots and bananas.' Phew, who'd have thought it?

3rd: I posted Three Beautiful Things from The Letters on Clare Grant's well-loved site.

4th: I ate jaffa cakes and talked about cats with Lane at Lane's Write.

5th: Liza Lee was up half the night finishing The Letters, but I think she's forgiven me. We talked about my favourite bird and my daily writing routine at It's just me, and helped her to celebrate her birthday!

5th: I also zipped over to Wordgirl's Work in Progress to talk about Richard and Judy and about being a seat-of-my-pantser.

6th: Caroline Smailes asked me for my top five tips for getting published, and then asked me some questions involving chocolate, Mr. Men and tortoises.

24th: A rather marvellous review by Dick at Patteran Pages also added to the debate on the book cover, and led to this post on cover design by my publisher Emma on the Snowblog.  What do you think?

25th: Simon asked me some very inventive questions involving every letter of the alphabet.  Find out why I included the word 'orgasm' in my answers at Stuck In A Book.

29th: I stopped at Lori's Daily Writing blog and talked about how I knew I was a writer. She also reviewed my book rather beautifully here.

31st: Phew. Last stop at Lizzy's Literary Life, where she serves me some very yummy lemon polenta cake and a cup of earl grey.  She also wrote a lovely review of the book here.

I'll be doing something a bit different for The Blue Handbag, my next book - go see!

After forty years of happy marriage, Leonard thought he knew his wife Rose as well as he knew himself. It's only after her sudden death that he finds her old handbag, which contains a mystery he can't ignore. Accompanied by Lily, his wife's childhood friend, Leonard becomes a reluctant detective as his whole life starts to unravel... 'The Blue Handbag' is steeped in a quiet poetry which reminds us to take pleasure from the ordinary details of life - reading stories to our children, sharing silence with our friend over a beer, enjoying the plants Leonard tends for a living - and never to take anything for granted.
